The most common additional diagnoses associated with ADHD are anxiety and depression. A common scenario is for someone to have longstanding depression not responding well to medication or counselling, till the penny drops and someone thinks of ADHD.
Depression can occur because genetically, depression and ADHD are often inherited together, but it can also happen because it’s stressful to live with ADHD, often results in relationship, financial and job stress, poor self esteem or increased anxiety and takes its toll.
